Grid

The pillar leaning on the staircase
lifeless,
Air’s lung a proliferating concoction
of tired breadths,
Tiles fitted between grids carry stories
only walls know
Walls of conduits, witness to human shadows
diminished by nocturnal glare,

Time 9:48pm
The last one moves in,
The grid shakes,
But earth doesn’t quake—

Time to carry the dead.
